Mortgage Manager calculates the cost of a mortgage and allows
you to compare the effect of different interest rates and
overpayments. It is designed for the UK market, but may work
for other country's mortgage systems.
Use Mortgage Manager to create an icon for each mortgage you are
evaluating, then enter values such as the mortgage amount,
fixed/discounted/capped/cash back rates and the interest calculation
period as well as one-off administration costs. Payment details are
then calculated with a month-by-month break-down of the payments and
the running total. You can modify the interest rate and add
over-payments to see their effect on the costs. Different mortgages
can then be compared and graphed to see which is cheapest over
various periods of time.
But why do you need it? Because it's not possible to know which is

Norton Commander (commonly shortened to "NC") was a prototypical orthodox file manager (OFM), written by John Socha and released by Peter Norton Computing (later acquired by the Symantec corporation). NC is a file manager which essentially acts as the text user interface for DOS. It was officially produced by Symantec between 1986 and 1998. The last DOS version of Norton Commander, 5.51, was released on July 1, 1998.

A related software, a graphical shell for DOS and Windows, Norton Desktop, was produced as a successor. It came in two variants, Norton Desktop for DOS (NDD) and Norton Desktop for Windows (NDW).

Background
Norton Commander was considered easy to use based on its constant view of two file manipulation objects at once. After starting the program the user saw two panels with file lists. Each panel can be easily configured to show information about the other panel, a directory tree, or a number of other options. At the bottom of the screen, Norton Commander displayed a list of commands that were extended on demand by the CTRL and ALT keys. Thus, without heavy use of the mouse (though mouse functionality was integrated around version 3.0), the user is able to perform many file manipulation actions quickly and efficiently. In addition it also included a built-in text file viewer (called with F3) and editor (F4).

Windows 95 included a new graphical shell called Windows Explorer, while the operating system itself introduced Long filenames (LFN).

Symantec released Norton Commander 5.51 to support long filenames using the standard Windows APIs. In order to preserve LFNs while working in real mode, Norton Commander 5.51 required the use of a Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) utility. Norton Commander did not have native support for LFNs in real mode and would truncate them.

Despite the decline in its use Norton Commander was very popular during the DOS era and it has been extensively cloned.

End of life
According to former Peter Norton Group developer Mark Lowlier, after Symantec had acquired Peter Norton Computing, Symantec had speculated Microsoft Windows would be a success, so the key PNC resources had been rediverted, while new programmers for Windows platform were hired. Brad Kingsbury and Enrique Salem were later developed a File Manager and Program Manager later developed Norton Desktop for Windows.

FoxPro is a text-based procedurally-oriented programming language and DBMS, originally published by Fox Software and later by Microsoft, for MS-DOS, MS Windows, Apple Macintosh, and UNIX.

Although FoxPro is a Database Management System (DBMS) and it does support relationships between tables, it is not considered a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), lacking transactional processing.

The final published release of FoxPro was 2.6, after which the name was changed to Visual FoxPro.

Although no longer sold or supported by Microsoft, there is still an active worldwide community of FoxPro users and programmers. FoxPro 2.6 for UNIX (FPU26) has even been successfully installed on Linux and FreeBSD using the Intel Binary Compatibility Standard (ibcs2) support library.

Technical aspects
FoxPro 2 included "Rushmore" optimizing engine, which used indices to accelerate data retrieval and updating. Rushmore technology examined every data-related statement, and looked for filter expressions. If one was used, it looked for an index matching the same expression.

In addition, FoxPro2 was originally built on WatCOM C++, which had its own memory extensor - at that time state-of-the-art. FoxPro2 could access expanded and extended memory, using almost all available RAM (DOS). It used some interrupts in absence of the extended memory driver: if no HIMEM.SYS was loaded, FoxPro enabled that mechanism.

Patent citation searching is very powerful. Patent citations are references in patents to other patents which are about closely related areas of technology.

All you really need to know is that once you have found a first lot of one or more interesting patents, say by using a key word search of the database, you can have PatCite automatically download and save a second lot of related patents which refer to (citing patents) or are referred to (cited patents) by your first lot of interesting patents. You can classify the second lot and repeat the process to get a third, fourth, lot until you are either satisfied with your search or exhausted the possibilities. PatCite automatically eliminates duplicate patent references, so you do not retrieve the same patent twice.

In each new lot of downloaded and saved patents, it is highly likely you will find more interesting patents. More likely than if you made a key word search of the patent database. Reading the cited and citing patents is likely to reveal useful key words which you may not have otherwise thought of. Think of the process as pruning out uninteresting branches of knowledge to leave behind the interesting branches. The process is much quicker, simpler and tidier than relying solely on key word searches. However, mixing key word searching and citation searching provides a powerful means of exhaustive searching.
